The Perfect Red Rug

When you are looking for a red rug for your home, you may struggle to find what you are looking for if you confine your search to local stores but if you use the web you are sure to find so many red rugs that you are bound to find the perfect one for you. You see, all red rugs are not made equal. There are different colors of red, for a start, from burgundy wine colored red (sometimes called maroon) to cherry red which has blue undertones and then there is always the classic color of bright red (or scarlet). And that is before you start mixing red with other colors. You will find everything from red and white rugs using Scandinavian patterns to red and green floral rugs depicting roses or tulips. Anyway here are a few options for red area rugs which you may like to think about for your interior.

A Contemporary Setting

Red is a bold color so you can make your rug a focal point. How about a round red rug at the center of your seating area? It will make a great statement especially if you choose plain bright red and it will contrast nicely with neutral colored sofas. A red shag rug in wool or leather strips would make an even bigger impact. Another great way to use a red area rug in a contemporary setting is to use a large geometric design in one or two colors incorporating your favorite red. You can then pick out the red color and use in cushions, a vase or other items to provide the accent color in your room.

A Formal and Traditional Living Room

You might think that red is too bright for a traditional room but you can certainly use a red Oriental rug in a traditional setting. Somehow the red is made more subtle by the design which incorporates more subdued colors. A red Persian rug would also work. Again it is how the pattern and design uses red that makes the red seem like it was made for a traditional room. If you prefer a plain red rug for your living room then think about using a darker red such as cherry or burgundy as these colors are less “in your face” and blend better with classic furniture.

A White Bathroom

A white bathroom is almost crying out for a red bath rug and matching towels to give it some color. Any of the red colors will work from scarlet to burgundy as long as you can find coordinating towels. (You will generally find matching ranges in the bathroom or linen department at larger department stores as well as online). Once you have your color picked out try to find one or two matching accessories to add further accents to your bathroom (without going over the top and having everything matching).

A Teenager’s Bedroom

A washable shaggy raggy rug in red would be great for a teenager’s bedroom adding a touch of color and a whole heap of comfort at the same time. Shaggy raggy rugs which are made of strips of t-shirt fabric are very soft as well as being easy to care for.
