Black Rugs : Some of The Best

There are black rugs available to suit every room.

If you have a contemporary setting and a predominantly monochrome color scheme plain black or black and white rugs can look absolutely wonderful. There are many styles of contemporary black rug to choose from (and you’ll see some examples of these below) from a black and white shag rug to black bathroom rugs which look great in a white bathroom and they come in every shape and size whether you are looking for a large round rug or a small hearth rug. When choosing black area rugs, always look for a quality product especially if you are buying in a plain color. It is the only thing which counts in that case so look for black wool rugs rather than those in synthetic material such as polypropylene if that is the case.

If you have a more traditional room there are many rugs available with black backgrounds and traditional patterns including a number of other colors. Take a look at black oriental rugs, for example as the traditional design in something like a Chinese rug can look great in a traditional living room. Turkish and Persian rugs can be found with black backgrounds too.

Black Rug : Perfect Finishing Touch

A plain black rug can be perfect for a modern setting where you want a clean minimalist look. For example, a round black rug in the center of a square room or at the center of a corner seating group provides a wonderful balanced look to the room and acts as a focal point. If you want a touch of luxury a black shag rug in wool or (even better) leather will add a contemporary designer touch.

You might think that black area rugs would be great for disguising dirt but unfortunately that is not the case (although you will fare much better if you spill a glass of red wine on it than you would with a cream rug!) The thing is, with a black area rug you do have to be careful about keeping it clean, as dark colors and especially plain dark colors show every speck of dust and fluff. And this will detract from the minimalist look you had envisaged. So you need to vacuum once a week or whenever your rug looks less than pristine.

The quality of the rug can be paramount with plain black too as there is nothing else to engage your eye other than the texture of the rug. For this reason choose a black wool rug over acrylic or other artificial fibers unless you are looking for a patterned rug.

If you are less into minimalism, you can mix black with any other color to complement your room color scheme. I have seen black rugs mixed with every other color and in many different patterns. And they are available in many styles from Chinese style formal rugs to cartoon character kids rugs. And, of course, there is a always the classic combination found in a black and white rug which I have seen in every pattern from the animal striped zebra rug to a beautiful black, white and gray abstract pattern which could have graced an art gallery wall.

When you are looking for a black rug you probably already have something in mind that would go with your room. Try not to be too rigid in your ideas before you look around however. I am always astounded at the sheer variety and beauty of rugs available and you are sure to find something better than you were looking for and which is the perfect finishing touch to your room if you keep an open mind.
