Shaggy rugs have been around since the seventies but the beautiful rugs you find today (and the shaggy rugs for sale you’ll see below) have a different flavor altogether. They shout quality as well as being highly desirable and they are often made in new materials such as leather or cotton t-shirt fabric, which gives them a modern edge. Of course, you’ll still get retro shaggy rugs, which will give your home the mood of years gone by, if that is what you want, but I love the latest contemporary shaggy rugs as they give your home such a touch of class.

1. Go for Quality
Especially if you are buying a large rug for a living room, which will have pride of place, avoid cheap shaggy rugs which look like they are made from synthetic materials. As well as looking low in quality themselves, they will cheapen your whole room. It’s obviously OK to save money but do that by looking for quality at a discount rather than something so obviously low cost. The small rugs made in t-shirt fabric are great as bedside rugs however and many of these are washable. These are especially good as kids rugs. If you are looking for a large area rug, you may find one or two which are washable, but you need to balance this with whether or not the rug will fit in your machine (and whether or not it will wreck it in the spin cycle).
3. Maintenance
You need to be prepared to look after shaggy area rugs. It is not quite like having a pet but they do need regular shaking or vacuuming to remove any debris which has lodged between the fibers otherwise it can cause the pile to wear or go flat and dirty looking very quickly.
