Especially if you are buying a large rug for a living room, which will have pride of place, avoid cheap shaggy rugs which look like they are made from synthetic materials. It’s obviously OK to save money but do that by looking for quality at a discount rather than something so obviously low cost. If you possibly can, spend more on one of the beautiful suede or leather shaggy rugs and you will not regret it, as these add texture, softness and quality to your floor all in one and inject a contemporary feel to your home like nothing else. 2. Do You Need a Washable Rug?
You will find washable shaggy rugs available in some styles, although obviously the ones in leather, suede and wool are not generally machine washable. The small rugs made in t-shirt fabric are great as bedside rugs however and many of these are washable. These are especially good as kids rugs. If you are looking for a large area rug, you may find one or two which are washable, but you need to balance this with whether or not the rug will fit in your machine (and whether or not it will wreck it in the spin cycle).
3. Maintenance
You need to be prepared to look after shaggy area rugs. It is not quite like having a pet but they do need regular shaking or vacuuming to remove any debris which has lodged between the fibers otherwise it can cause the pile to wear or go flat and dirty looking very quickly.
